The H.A.I.R. project is a detailed investigation on human hair that started in 2020. It looks into the material’s chemical components, it’s potential applications for design and regenerative use, symbolic significance and political implications.
How do we relate to hair once it is disconnected of the human body?
What can happen if we challenge social norms around impurity, disgust and decay that are related to human hair?
What can be found when we transgress the abject?
How can we sense intimacy through a material process?
How do we approach cycles of transformation?
How can we explore the relationship between species through transmutation of bodies/territories at a molecular level?
R A D I C A L C A R E, my latest work, is an installation consisting of a hand felted human hair tapestry (400×190cm) that is growing chia sprouts in real time, and a collection of 200 individual hair donations. It was presented during the Graduation show at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague, July 2025.
